The Aero rack looks stronger than Thule's cheaper square cross bars orYakima's round cross bars.The rubber strip along the top is perfect for keeping things from sliding around. I got this rack for use with my old aluminium heavy duty canoe that must weighabout 75 lbs, the Aero racks are rated for up to 165 lbs load which is the same rating as for the square load bars. Being aluminium, there is no risk of rust and the Aero cross section of the racks does seem to cut wind noise. On my Prius I didn't bother with Thule's Fairing wind deflector, and I don't miss it. I also didn't get the lock set, which since the foot clamps are covered by the car doors when closed, the rack would not be easy to remove. So the locks give little added security. For canoes, don't bother with Thule's canoe carrier, it only works with the square bar racks. I made that mistake, but I did find that the rubber strip on the top of Aero rack eliminates the need for the brackets to hold the canoe in place anyway. Loading my heavy canoe was easy, I put it over my head and placed one side on the top of the racks and then slide the canoe onto the rack, then center it.I did use the straps from the canoe kit which do a great job of securing the canoe to the racks. The canoe carrier kit only came with two road tie downs, hauling a canoe really requires four, so I had to buy two more. You can get better straps and quick release rope tie downs at a local store for about half the money Thule will charge you, so skip the canoe carrier set unless you buy a Thule square rack. Which makes this rack set nearly all inclusive, just buy two straps and four quick release tie downs locally, and you are all set.
One note, I did have a thrumming noise when I first used this rack, but it turned out that I had twisted the straps when I put them over the top of the canoe, once I untwisted them so they laid flat, the noise was gone.
The seller will call you to find out what type of car the rack will be used on, so they can supply the correct fit kit and if the Aero feet sold with this rack will work with your car.
