(More customer reviews)I am very pleased with this rack.It was easy to assemble and since it works mainly on pulling pins (for adjustments), pretty much anyone can use it.The stabilizer pin prevents any swaying and the entire rack (and bikes) simply stays put.Nobody likes to see wobbling in their rear view mirror!The construction seems very solid and my only minor gripe is that the cables holding the pins could be a thicker.Also, it is a bit tedious moving all the pins around for each bike bracket when setting up/tearing down.The piece is somewhat bulky, so expect to have help if you are not comfortable lifting heavy objects.

Designed to fold flat against the back of a vehicle when not in use, this heavy-duty platform-style rack mounts on a 2-inch hitch and holds three bicycles. (More customer reviews)Did great for our long distance drives. Up to 7 hour drive. Freeway and mountain driving. It held up great and the swing away is definitely a plus when you want to get in the back of the truck and the bikes are in the way. I was leary the first time I swung it with a load of 3 bikes, but nothing happened, swung right back and locked back into place. I wish they made one to hold five bikes. We replace the short T screws that came with the rack with 4inch bolts and washers to fit all our bikes. Then we bungee all the bike tires together to minimize the tire movement and we are set. Never had to tighten the load during our drives yet.

(More customer reviews)Although I've only been using the Softride Access Versa a couple of weeks now, I'm very satisfied at this point.The fold-away design and hitch pin lock allow me to leave the rack connected to my vehicle at all times.The hitch pin threads into the hitch, providing a quiet ride (no rattles).However, this feature makes installation and removal a little more involved than with a quick-release pin.

The rack ships mostly assembled, but there are a few nuts and bolts to install.It wouldn't hurt to have a torque wrench (250 inch/lbs and below) on hand prior to assembly.The instructions are adequate, although they could be improved.

Once the trays are adjusted to fit your bike, the bike can be removed and installed into the tray without further adjustment.If you leave the rack attached to your vehicle, you can load the bikes in a matter of minutes and be on your way.

Thule Doubletrack 2 Bike Hitch Carrier Review

(More customer reviews)My vehicle is a 1999 Nissan Maxima sedan, equipped with a Kurt 1-1/4" hitch receiver. Due to the toung weight limit of the hitch receiver, the choice of bike racks is also limited. Thanks God, the THULE 990 is a great solution for me.

Originally, I doubt the capability of an 1-1/4" hitch to bear heavy loads (rack + bikes). After I installed THULE 990 and loaded two bikes, I was so glad that I chose a correct rack. The play was very very small, no matter my car was stopped, on local roads or on the freeway. The rack provides three points to contact to each bike. It is an excellent way to carry bikes. No need to worry about that the bikes would scratch my car or scratch each other.

For the rack itself, the height is pretty easy for me to load bikes. I do not have to lift my bikes too much. Also the rack provides sufficient clearance to access rear trunk and let trunk lid open without any interferences.

For entering/exiting my drive way, THULE 990 provides sufficient vertical clearance so that I could drive in/out drive way without further awareness.

For local road driving, all I need to be aware are the speed bumps. Just drive nice and slowly. Otherwise, the bikes/rack are rock-solid.

For freeway driving, I drove my vehicle at 70mph and the bikes/rack were pretty stable. I could not feel any play or vibration. But the aerodynamic drag is a little bit noticeable. By the way the test drive on freeway was about 20 miles one-way, 40 miles total.

The integrated lock heads are also a great advantage. No need to use additional ugly and bulky locking cables. The two locks on the locking handles are easy to use and efficient. The STL2 hitch lock is also easy to use and very tight fitted.

With THULE 990, I could virtually extend my bicycle rides to anywhere my vehicle could reach. The THULE 990 is really a great bike rack.

About Thule
To say that Thule's beginnings in the U.S. were humble would be an understatement. Softride 26044 Access Element Bike Rack for 2" Receiver Review

(More customer reviews)I have used this bike rack for three years and it is still working great.The fact that it lowers makes loading my bike easy.The rubber straps on the rack are OK, however I always use softride velcro straps for added holding power.The rack is sturdy and gives a quiet ride and it is nice that the bars fold down out of the way so the bars are not sticking out when parking in the garage or at the bike park area.If three or four bikes are carried I suggest just loading the bikes without lowering the bars so you will not have to lift all the bikes at the same time.It's a good bike rack made with good materials and I expect many more years of service from my softride bike rack.

(More customer reviews)I tried a friend's very similar to this. Also bought a different type that uses the rubber straps for securing. I prefer these plates that screw down. Also, my friend's bolts are shorter, so with bikes with fat bars, you had to use an adapter. Still have to use adapter for one 24" bike, but the 26" bike has enough clearance between bars to slide the bottom plate through. Just wish it would swing down for easier access to liftgate.

Allen Deluxe 4-Bike Hitch Mount Rack for Vehicles with Rear Mounted Spare Tire (2-Inch Receiver) Review

(More customer reviews)I was very disappointed to find that this rack does not work with side hinged rear doors. It only works with hatch style rear doors. No where on the packaging or in the manual is this mentioned. I quickly put the rack together (very easy to do so) and was quite pleased at how solid it was. I then put it on my 2006 Hummer H3. So far, so good. Then, I went to test the mechanism that allows the rack to fold down so the rear door can be opened. I folded it down, but was stunned to find that my rear door only opened about 5 inches before hitting the bottom area of the rack (yes--even with the rack folded down). Surely, I thought, I must have installed it incorrectly. But, I hadn't. I then called Allen, and spoke to someone there who very readily admitted that the fold-down mechanism does not function well with side hinged rear doors. Oddly, he wouldn't admit that the rack is useless for such vehicles because "technically, the rack still works--you can put bikes on it". He suggested that I carry around a pair of 3/4 inch closed wrenches, and "simply take the rack completely off when the rear door needs to be accessed". I thought he was kidding, but he wasn't. Of course, this is not a viable solution. Oddly enough, the folks at Allen decided to use an image of a vehicle with a side hinged rear door on the box. You can actually just look at that picture and see that the rack would not work with that vehicle.

I would have given this product one star, but added a star to reflect its strength and the ease at of putting it together.

About Allen Bike Racks
In 1967, after a few years of working on the aerospace technology for the Apollo missions, Dick Allen was out of a job. Government cutbacks led Allen, a Harvard-trained physicist, to transform his garage hobby into a new industry. (More customer reviews)I've used this rack about twice a week for six months now.Works perfectly with the hitch I had mounted on my Civic.I'm in and out of my trunk often for work, and this rack allows for plenty of clearance.Before I bought this on Amazon, I checked out the really expensive brands in the bike stores, and this Hollywood rack seems just as well made for less than half the cost.
As a side note, I bought a small steel combination lock at Target that I use in place of my hitch pin - could be used with any rack.Certainly not a guarantee the rack won't disappear, but it's a little extra security for a few bucks so thought I'd mention it.

Heininger 3010 Advantage SportsRack TiltAWAY Bike Rack Review

(More customer reviews)This is my first hitch mounted rack but my fourth bike rack purchase.I researched many of the racks before purchasing this one but ultimately, as an occasional rider, price was the deciding factor.If you are looking for a convenient, easy-on, easy-off rack, this isn't the one for you.

PROS:
- Solid construction
- Relatively lighter weight than other 4 bike hitch racks
- Tilts 45 degrees at the base to allow for hatch access
- Easy rubber strap mechanism allows for simple and secure bike placement/removal
- Allows for both 2" and 1.25" hitch configurations with included adapter
- "Anti-wobble device" is a wingnut-type screw that works well; stable at speed

CONS:
- Lacks "quick release."Excessive use of locking pins to secure all bolts for all moving parts. The pins add time to the process, can sometimes pinch your fingers, yet they are essential to hold the bolts in place.There is no obvious place to put these pins when you are working the rack.
- Threaded bolt requires basic tools for hitch install (but it is quite secure)
- Tilting the rack 45 degrees is a four step process: 1) remove the pin, 2) pull the retaining bolt, 3) lift another locking bolt, 4) pull the rack while lifting the locking bolt.
- When tilting the rack it is clear one portion of the rack is slightly oversized and causes quite a bit of friction between pieces.This makes the tilting action graceful, but there is definite metal-on-metal scraping when the rack is tilted or placed back in position.
- No ability to add an integrated bike lock to the rackSUMMARY:

The Advantage SportsRack TiltAWAY Bike Rack is an average 4 bike, hitch-mounted rack. Out of the box, the assembly process took about 15 minutes. Installed, the rack is stable at freeway speeds and inspires confidence in the security of your bikes. As noted above, the biggest disappointment is the use of locking pins throughout the rack. They require a good deal of force for insertion and removal. These could have been avoided with more expensive self-locking bolts (with thumb-press unlock), but that would have raised the price of the rack to the level of costlier rivals.My wife and I agree it is easier to install and remove than trunk-style racks, and the distance between the car and rack eases any vehicle damage concerns.The SportsRack TiltAWAY is a fine rack for occasional use but the lack of a quick release for tilting precludes it from staying on the car when not in use.

NOTE: 200 lb max for 1.25" hitches, including the rack - means you will probably not be able to carry 4 full size bikes on any Class I/II 1.25" hitch, no matter the rack

Thule 912XT Roadway Hanging Bike Hitch Rack Review

(More customer reviews)My 2 favorite features on this bike rack were the built in locks on the carrier unit and the adjustable bar that moves from 90 degrees to 45 degrees by just removing a pin (the pin attached by a wire so you can't lose it.)I am able to swing open the back door enough to shift luggage around or let the dog jump in and out.Only drawback was the slight mark that I saw on my tire cover which I was able to remove.It's great to be able to lock the bikes in place for times when I have to park and step away, though technically, if someone pulled the bar out of the hitch they could take it all which is the case with any rack I suppose.

The $95 price was great. I almost bought it from another online store for $60 more than Amazon plus they had it in stock with free shipping so I got it in 2 days with my AmazonPrime membership.It's not heavy and it's easy to take on and off when not in use and store in the garage.I would definitely recommend it.
